CHACO WAR
As a result of confrontations that went on along the Bolivian/Paraguay border, Paraguay began to move troops along the border. On June 15, 1932, Bolivia stormed the Paraguayan fort, Vanguardia and the war began. For three years, Bolivia recruited Indians into the military and Paraguay accused foreign oil companies of financing Bolivia’s army. It was very difficult for soldiers to endure the climate of Chaco and many died. Many soldiers also died because of infections and disease in the dense forests of Chaco. After 3 years of conflict, Paraguay finally forced the Bolivian army almost totally out of Chaco, thus winning the war (RyanLindsay).
